In the original movie the Knight loses the game. And dies. It’s a kind of sacrifice. He can only stall death with the game. So it’s a bad metaphor if you’re pro piracy. The subtext becomes false and the remix itself becomes just another evidence that the piracy movement doesn’t see the whole picture and doesn’t think things through. It’s like using a scene from Oidipus to make a point about a happy family - without knowing that in the story Oidipus accidentally killed his father and married his mother. This remix would only make sense if it were ironic.

Olle, you’re over-analyzing it. you aren’t supposed to read into the context of the original picture, at all.
trivia: in the movie death lures Antonius Block to tell him his strategy, so you can say that death cheats

Not really. I’m talking of subtext. My point is that when you lack the historical and contextual insights, you don’t see the whole picture. And then you make ill-founded decisions. It’s not “over-analyzing” if you feel the distortion and then wonder why. If you would replace the Knight with e.g. documentary footage of Adolf Hitler, I’m convinced that even more people would feel a distortion. It’s all about general knowledge.
Regarding trivia: On the other hand - you can’t cheat death. Which only strengthen my point.
