Background
Time is epic, the ecosystem of the Internet is tested and we are here to defend it. Old regimes are passing new laws and new regulations to uphold a failing system that nobody really wants.
An internet today is not some virtual entity, but a network that can materialize in everything from court systems, parliaments and phone networks to memes, music and art systems. Internet is a methodology, not a place.
The idea of an Embassy of Piracy came up when Piratbyrån and The Pirate Bay got invited to contribute to first Internet Pavilion that will be part of this years Venice Biennial. As an Embassy our task is to represent the freedom of Internet and pirates of Internet and to promote the Kopimi way of life.
The Embassy
The Embassy has multipliable and modifiable form in shape of a pyramid. By downloading and printing out the foldable paper model you can make the Embassy materialize anywhere; in public spaces, in the forest, at work, school or on your dinner table or for your pets.
Remember, when you form an Embassy, you are legally within internet territory. Together we will multiply a growing number of Embassies all over the world. Share your photos of The Embassy on the http://embassyofpiracy.org
We are all the Embassy, we are all Ambassadors of the freedom of Internet. This adventure is ours to swarm, modify and share.

Hi!
Looks nice and dandy, but could you further explain what the kopimi way of life means?
It means that we affirm to be copied. What that means, in all its forms, is what the Embassy of Piracy and the Bureau of Piracy is about. The ‘POwr, Broccoli and Kopimi’ is 100 inspiring principles for everyone who aims to live the Kopimi lifestyle. “The Internet is right,” is the ultimate wisdom.
The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her Bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will well roam.
Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never say we die.
Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
– with the keys to the cage…
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler’s Green!
The bell has been raised
from it’s watery grave…
Do you hear it’s sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail toward home!
Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.
How about you guys stfu and start being productive. Rather than wasting your time here, try consolidating proud brothers and let them join our ranks for an internet of freedom and not this one where each individual is restricted by a myriad of infinite walls.

Hi, is there any technological chance to establish own “internet” (e.g. VPNs), private, back to the roots it originated from, without any regulations of governments that now usurp the privilege to decide about nowadays internet?

Unfortunately for the Free Sofware movement, piracy destroys Free Software principles. For those here who are GNU/Linux users, think to yourself what you’re gaining and losing by pirating software and other media. You have thousands of Free Software applications at your disposal, but you’re saying that the software and media, that the Free Culture provides, isn’t good enough. Proprietary software is still superior, you just refuse to pay for it. As such, you’re setting an example that no one needs Free Software, when you can pirate all the applications, music and videos you want.
Personally, I would like to see the restrictions on proprietary software and media lifted. I would like to see the day when software can be shared without restriction. However, I also believe in honoring, sustaining and obeying the law. As much as I don’t like the laws, and I am actively doing my best to get many of them changed, I still believe in being honest in my dealings with my fellow man.
So, while I probably won’t convert anyone here, your “embassy of piracy” is just a slap in the face fore those of us in the Free Software movement.
Hey Aaron,
I don’t think piracy is all about software. More about music, tv-shows, movies, whatever you like to share.
I use plenty of free software, but as a student there are some (not free) applications I just need to have, yet the companies think a student version for 1000 euros is acceptable.
So… maybe you’re a bit harsh with your ’slap in the face’ thing.
I’m not referring to just software either. I’m referring to the entire Free Culture. There are artists out there working hard putting their music, videos, photos and other digital media under free licenses, and no one is paying attention. We’re too busy pirating the Big Industry media.
I don’t agree with a lot of the practices of software companies, Hollywood, the entertainment industry, but that’s no excuse to break the law. Why not fight the fight with honesty, integrity, liberty and freedom, instead of dodging the law and doing everything underground?
It is harsh, though. I will admit. The truth is a hard pill to swallow. I had a hard time deleting my 40GB of MP3s, 200GB of videos and 100GB of software, but it’s necessary if I’m to believe in the ideal and principles of Freedome. It’s just something you can’t get around. Piracy is a slap in the face to the Free Culture. Piracy hurts our cause of liberation.
just because they managed to weasel in a law does not make that law okay remeber they have a tendacy of bending the rules to get what they want. copyright is unesscary in this day and age. you shouldnt delete your stuff that just made all the time and effort you spent downloading it a waste not to mention the money you had to pay for going over your bandwidth cap.

Aaron,
I think it’s important to note the meaning of the word ‘Pirate’. Pirates do not necessarily fight for any cause other than perhaps their own self interest. To say that Piracy is a slap in the face to the Free Software movement is only correct if you understand Piracy and your Movement to be two separate things. Whereas your Movement seeks to change the status quo, a true Pirate is one who merely seeks to take what they can and to steal the rest, regardless of any rules or laws except their own. In fact, if your Movement were to be successful, it would be a slap in the face of Piracy as the Pirates would have much less to pirate (it’s hard to steal something that’s being given away). True Pirates belong to no movement, they are no crusaders for a greater cause.
With that in mind, the Embassy’s mission and it’s name are a bit contradictory. Nevertheless, I appreciate what the Embassy is doing! Hasta la victoria, siempre!
The internet shall come. It shall take over. Time will show, in the end, all is wrong. Freedom to copy, take and share is almost here. We are the warriors in a war that shall be won. We are on the front line. It is time… time for us to show our true colours. Time for the internet to prevail… We are the Pirates of the internet, we are the rulers of the internet, the world is under our command, we are yet to command it.
Aaron has a point, instead of copying / downloading OR BUYING any software / song / TV show / movie … etc … try making it yourself … (not so easy eh?) but the idea of restricting anything (even piracy) on the internet is a limitation of freedom … when everyone gets what they want for free, maybe we’ll start giving back out of our own free will … even if that’s just sending a thank you e-mail back to the author of that 10k utility you used just once to solve your problem (or maybe save your butt). All we have to remember is that some of us (programmers / artists) have some needs that need to be fulfilled (like food / rent) that require money (at least until all us humans realize that regardless of race or beliefs we’re all on the same planet and all need to survive and start giving to each other everything we need.)
